Dear Friends,

When I started Contender Sailcloth in 1986, I set out to build a company based on quality, service, and textile innovation, run by sailors with a passion for the sport and a keen interest in producing the best sailcloth available. Almost 40 years later, we have distribution in 9 countries and weaving and finishing in Europe and the US.

Contender is the recognized leader in spinnaker cloth with an extensive range for racers and cruisers alike. Our Polykote One Design fabrics are helping sailors win races from the local club level up to International World Championships. And yachtsmen everywhere appreciate the quality and durability of our Polypreg Dacron styles.

I have enjoyed great satisfaction building Contender with a team second to none and working with all our customers around the world. Contender Sailcloth is my baby, but the time has come to pass the torch to a new owner who will appreciate Contender as I have, an owner who puts a priority on quality, innovation, and customer service.

Sioen Industries has been a partner to Contender for many years, weaving most of our polyester sailcloth at their TIS facility in Belgium. They are also the owners of Dimension Polyant, another highly regarded sailcloth brand. When Sioen approached me with interest in buying Contender, I knew I had found the right company to carry on the Contender story and philosophy of sailcloth.

Contender and Dimension Polyant will each bring their special expertise to this new venture, creating an unparalleled line of sail fabrics and a synergy that will continue to advance the science of sailcloth.

I will remain as an adviser to Sioen through the transition. And to you, my dear customers, I wish to extend my gratitude and thanks for your friendship and business over all these years. I have taken much pride in building Contender and now look forward to what the future will bring.
